just been for an interview and been offered the job, but am trying to negotiate more money before i make my mind up. need some local bears to help make my mind up here. firstly the company is a large construction company called mammut, any info? secondly will have to leave the family behind whilst i get settled in, have any bears had a similar experience and how did you cope with it. finally what kind of money would i expect to fork out for a 2 bedroom run of the mill house (any type). sorry if i am a bit nosey but this is my first experience of working away from home and am a bit nervous. if i do come across i am sure i will see you all in biggles bar. remember WATP.

I had the same relocation 6 months ago.Depends on how long you will be here without your family, i was only three months without the family and negotiated a flight home every month. The first month is the toughest until you get your first home leave and then it was easier.
On housing you need to remember added costs.Regardless of who you lease fom you will pay on top the commision for the estate agent around 5% of the yearly cost, Make sure the company pays for that.
On top you have utility bills that will be around $10'000.00 per year for a house. There is also a local goverment tax of 5% to cover the equivelant of council tax i suppose.
A decent 2 bed flat will set you back a minimum of $25'000.00 but more for some of the better flats getting up to $30'000.00.A house probably $35'000.00 to $45'000.00, best thing to do is check out Dubai Better Homes website and take a look and get a feel for different areas and prices. Most people try to get a house reasonably close to schools if you have kids.Get if you can schooling paid for by the company.A lot of contract deals right now being offered are total lump sum contracts where they will pay everything in one lump sum every month and it is up to you to sort everything out.Take care that for leasing housing you need to write three cheques to the land lord, 2 post dated, so in the first month you will pay the estate agent and three months rent in the first month.
Bigger companies like mine will take the lease in their name and then they take care of paying the bills every month and it takes a lot of the strain. It's daunting the first time but once you have done it you wonder what the fuss is all about.Just remember that Dubai is an expensive place to live!!

Saying that get the best deal you can and come join us in the sun.

Thanks for the reply. The company have apartments and i will get one as part of my deal (which is now settled after getting a decent package sorted). I will be without the family for 18 months to 2 years, my youngest is 15 and the wife will stay here untill he finishes school. One thing I will have to find out is utility bills, I never thought of that. I will probably be joining you out there the begining of July so I am sure a few new aquantices will be made. Is there any regular meeting of the Club? Anyway thanks again for giving up your time with a reply. Remember WATP.
